Sub-Saharan Africa has witnessed the largest increase from 51.6% to 57.4% for this period and is expected to increase to 62.1% by 2030. Target 3.7: The proportion of women of reproductive age (15-49 years) who have their need for family planning satisfied with modern contraceptive methods has been increasing slightly from 76.5% in 2015 to 77.6% in 2023 and is projected to reach 78.2% by 2030 – strong progress but still not sufficient to meet the target of ensuring universal access to sexual and reproductive health-care services by 2030.Notably, in LDCs, 47% of the total population required NTD treatment and care in 2021, down from 79% in 2010. d) Despite significant disruptions caused by COVID-19, the global number of people requiring treatment and care for neglected tropical diseases (NTDs) declined from 1.8 billion in 2015 to 1.65 billion in 2021. There were an estimated 619,000 malaria deaths globally in 2021 compared to 625,000 in 2020 and 568,000 in 2019. c) There were an estimated 247 million malaria cases globally in 2021, compared to 224 million in 2015. Between 20, the net reductions in TB incidence and TB death were 10% and 5.9%, respectively, only one-fifth and one-tenth of the way to the 2025 milestone of WHO’s End TB Strategy. The TB incidence rate rose by 3.6% between 20, reversing declines of about 2% per year for most of the previous two decades. b) In 2021, an estimated 1.6 million people died from TB and 10.6 million people fell ill with TB, an increase from 10.1 million in 2020. This is however still far from the 2025 target of fewer than 370,000 new HIV infections as agreed by the UN General Assembly in 2021. ![]() a) Tremendous progress has, for instance, been made in reducing new HIV infections, particularly in the highest-burden regions: the estimated 1.5 million new HIV infections in 2021 was almost one-third fewer than in 2010.

![]() ![]() ![]() My experience of PE and competitive sport at school was frankly enough to give me a knee-jerk aversion to most forms of activity, bar the odd bit of Zumba and holiday hiking. I’m a relatively recent convert to this running lark, having attempted my first parkrun in April this year (with much trepidation but also encouragement from BWp regular and superb Couch to 5k coach Patrick Marshall). Nothing offsets the working week quite like it! I volunteer as often as I can, along with my BWp buddies Hollie Oxtoby and Chris Gibson, and we can usually be found in The Windmill Inn post-event close-down, enjoying a breakfast (refuelling!) with a side order of laughter. The conversations en route are a huge part of my love for this event and make Saturdays a highlight that I look forward to every week. ![]() This was my 19 th parkrun (18 of them have been here at BWp) I chose to walk the muddy course on this occasion and enjoyed a great chat with my Fitmums and Friends pal Polly Campbell (on her 125 th parkrun) along the way. and it’s the reason 143 perky participants, bolstered by 39 valiant volunteers, turned out on Saturday 9 December to cover that course, whatever the weather had ready to throw at us (Storm Elin, apparently!).
